About: Binaural Beat
When two sounds of nearly similar frequencies are presented, one to each ear, with
stereo headphones or speakers, the brain integrates the two signals, producing a
sensation of a third sound. This third sound, called a binaural beat, encourages
brainwave activity that matches the Hemi-Sync sound frequency patterns. For
example, a Hemi-Sync® relaxation tape encourages the brain to create a beat that
results in brain waves that are naturally characteristic of a relaxed state.
A sound played in the left ear is heard as a single tone. (e.g. 100 hz) A slightly
different sound played in the right ear is also heard as a single tone. (e.g. 104 hz)
When played together through headphones, the vibrato perceived in the brain is
called binaural beating. The beat perceived is the difference between the two tones
played in the two ears. (E.g. 104 hz - 100 hz = 4 hz)
